There are a range of counseling approaches aimed at supporting individuals and their families. Following are the types of counseling services available at Think Possibilities Counseling Services, PLLC.
Individual Counseling – These are one-on-one sessions between an individual and a licensed counselor. Sessions focus on exploring the client’s thoughts, feelings, behaviors and experiences in a confidential and supportive environment. Individual counseling is effective for addressing personal issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, career challenges, and self-esteem issues.
Family Counseling – Also known as family therapy, involves special meetings between the members of a family and a licensed counselor. They meet to discuss and develop strategies to improve family communication, resolve conflicts, set boundaries, improve understanding of each other and strengthen relationships. Family counseling is effective in addressing issues such as parenting conflicts, sibling rivalry, divorce/separation, challenges in blended as well as kinship care families and behavioral issues in children and youth.
Group Counseling – In group counseling, a licensed counselor creates a safe, supportive space where a small group of individuals (usually from 6 – 10 participants) come together to address similar concerns. Members of the group share experiences, receive feedback, gain insights and learn coping strategies. Group counseling can be beneficial for addressing social skills, interpersonal relationships, addiction recovery (chemical and process), grief and loss and managing specific mental health issues.
Multi-Family Counseling – These are specialized group counseling sessions facilitated by licensed counselors that bring multiple families experiencing similar challenges. The families come together in one setting to share experiences, provide mutual support, learn from each other and develop coping strategies. Multifamily groups sessions are helpful in promoting empathey, connection, collaboration, and shared problem solving among families.
Family Group Decision Making – These are specialized sessions that involve a licensed counselor working with members of the family network (older children/youth in the family, birth parents, kinship caregivers, adoptive parents, and other individuals the family feel are significant). They come together to discuss concerns, explore options and collectively develop plan to enhance the health and well-being of one or more members of the family.
